2. Japanese Agriculture to the World from Okinawa

Japan Premium Vegetable Co.Ltd
CEO Endo Kenji
-"Oishii Smiling" to Anywhere-
"Making smile in the world with the delicious food of Japan"
This is our slogan.

This is my personal story. When I was a student, I traveled to various countries in Asia.
I continued my exploration in Asia while working in a strawberry farm for 20 years,
And what I felt there was the expectation to Japanese people and Japanese-style agriculture.

"I'll lend you the land you like, so why don't you operate farms together here?"
I was invited many times in the land I visited for the first time in Asia like this.
At first, I could not understand why they told such a story to a young Japanese stranger.
But it was not an evaluation of my personality, but that of the Japanese people.
"Japanese people are sincere" and "Japanese products do not break."
These were the very evaluations and expectations of Japan that came from what our predecessors had honestly accumulated one by one !

"I would like to hand down the evaluation and expectations for Japan cultivated by our predecessors to the next generation." We are engaged in our business with this mindset.

I believe that the great thing about Japanese-style agriculture is not only its technology, but also its mentality, the traditional Japanese spirit.
In the world, there are many examples of cultivation that do not think about the future in exchange for short-term profit. If we continue to farm in a way that expropriates from the land, the food situation in the world will become worse and worse.
Japanese agriculture values continuity with the idea of leaving a homeland for its descendants.
Agriculture in Japan has naturally been following SDGs for a long time.
The Japanese style agriculture, which considers continuity to the next generation, is actually a method of producing good crops in an economically superior and stable way.

In addition, two of the characteristics of Japanese agriculture are diversity and adaptability.
For example, Japanese farmers grow strawberries everywhere in Japan which goes long from north to south; from cold Hokkaido area to hot Okinawa area.
Hence, Japanese-style agriculture can adapt to produce high-quality crops anywhere in the world in a few years.
That's the agricultural technology of Japan.
It is also a technology suitable for agricultural villages that operate on small properties.
In this regard, I believe that Japanese-style agriculture can contribute to the preservation of agricultural villages in the Asia and also we have a responsibility to do so.

Our main technology is IT Green House for the Asian monsoon regions which combines Japanese agricultural and industrial technologies developed in the subtropical Okinawa area.
Especially in tropical and subtropical regions with high temperatures and humidity, this technology is characterized by its capability to stably produce high-quality tomatoes and strawberries.
We aim to contribute to the sustainability of agricultural regions in Asia with Japanese agricultural technology by distributing it to those areas.

3. Spanish foodtech open-innovation ecosystem
----------------------------------------------------
Embassy of Spain in Tokyo

image12573803.jpgSpain is positioned as one of the largest agri-food powers in the world. Thanks to the quality of its products and their wide variety, the Spanish agri-food sector enjoys great prestige in international markets. The Spanish ecosystem is the 5th highest for investment in European Foodtech ecosystems. The potential of the Spanish Foodtech ecosystem is due to several lines of action in which the agents are working to position Spain as a leading country in Foodtech.
image12573805.jpg
image12573799.jpgThis ecosystem includes national, regional, and local government agencies, business associations, technology centres, science parks, universities, incubators and accelerators, and startups. The potential of the Spanish Foodtech ecosystem is due to several lines of action in which the agents contribute among them. Technology centres in Spain are at the forefront of the technological development that bring efficiency to the system, as well as in the discovery of novel ingredients and product development.

These agents play a fundamental role in the development of innovation for different companies since they normally work together to carry out day-to-day projects in the companies. However, they are also working on collaborative projects together with companies and other agents in the ecosystem to develop solutions that facilitate the construction of a more sustainable food system. Currently, the four main technological centers related to foodtech ecosystem are: Ainia (Valencia), AZTI (Basque country), CNTA (Navarra) and IRTA (Catalonia). Main fields are alternative proteins, development of ingredients, and traceability among others.

Related to innovation, Spanish food companies are leading the way in the development of technologies to ensure a sustainable food system.
They do this through programs with the most promising international startups, as is the case with Pascual and Mylkcubator, the incubator launched by its open innovation vehicle Pascual Innoventures. This is the first global incubator to work with projects developing solutions for the dairy industry through the application of cellular agriculture.
Internal innovation is also being developed in Spanish companies, for example, Nueva Pescanova is developing the first octopus bred in aquaculture.

All the progresses can be observed in the wide amount of trade shows organized in Spain. These trade shows are committed to different areas of interest. Food 4 Future (https://www.expofoodtech.com/) is one the trade shows which are focused on bringing the companies with revolutionary projects in development and shows the innovation on the foodtech world. It is celebrated annually in Bilbao and next edition is on 16th-18th May 2023.
